Seiyuu and anime fans everywhere were shocked when Miyu Matsuki recentlypassed away at the age of 38 last October. She is best known for her roles as Anna in Shimoneta: A Boring World Where Dirty Jokes Don’t Exist, Kuuko in the Nyaruko-san series, and Isumi in the Hayate the Combat Butler! series.
Initially, her exact cause of death was not announced, but thanks to an announcement by 81 Produce via Miyu’s own blog, we now know that she had caught a chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection, which escalated into malignant lymphoma. It ultimately led to her unfortunate passing.

The reason for 81 Produce announcing her cause of death is because her own family wished for it, and wanted people to know the name of the disease to raise awareness. According to the US government’s Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Epstein-Barr virus is:
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as human herpesvirus 4, is a member of the herpes virus family. It is one of the most common human viruses. EBV is found all over the world. Most people get infected with EBV at some point in their lives. EBV spreads most commonly through bodily fluids, primarily saliva. EBV can cause infectious mononucleosis, also called mono, and other illnesses.
Last July, Matsuki announced that she will be going on hiatus for health reasons, even though she was quite active voicing Anna in Shimoneta.
