After what looks to be a profitable financial year, with the success of their titles such as “In This Corner of the World” and “Yuri!!! On Ice”, Studio MAPPA will be setting up a new facility in Sendai, northeast of Tokyo. The announcement was made by CEO Manabu Ohtsuka along with Sendai mayor Emiko Okuyama in the beginning of June 2017.
Since last year, Sendai has been actively promoting itself as a new hub for animation and digital content. There are vocational schools for animation and computer graphics based in Sendai, and subsidies are also issued to companies who set up studios in the city, Asahi News Digital reports.
