Talent agency Arts Vision has announced that one of their best known artistes, voice actor Yuuichirou Umehara, has been hospitalized due to acute encephalomyelitis. The company has stated that while the young talent is receiving treatment, they cannot confirm when he will be able to return to voice acting work.
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is a rare autoimmune disease whose key symptom is a sudden and widespread inflammation in the brain and spinal cord. ADEM also affects the central nervous system and damages the myelin insulation, and as a result destroys the brain’s white matter. It is often triggered by a viral infection.
Yuuichirou Umehara is best known for his roles as Hayato Kujō in “Aquarion Logos”, En Yufuin in “Cute High Earth Defense Club Love!”, Eugene Sevenstark in “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans”, Kuroo Hazama in “Young Black Jack”, Kyoji Takajo in “The IDOLM@STER SideM, Dai Murase in “Tsukipro The Animation”, and most recently as Goro in “Darling in the Franxx”.
