Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. (SIE) has announced at this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2018 that it will cease production and shipment of their popular handheld device PSVita in 2019. SIE VP Hiroyuki Oda has also stated that there are no plans to create a new successor in the meantime.
The PSVita is a high-performance handheld game machine released in 2011, with a 5-inch LCD screen and is wifi capable. Although it was popular in the Japanese market, it struggled in Europe and the United States where users preferred the flagship home console Playstation 4. SIE’s PS4 business is performing well, as well as its mobile game development division.
