Calling all you cool cats and hot chicks of the 80s (and early 90s) — one of the biggest manga and anime hits of Japan’s Bubble Era is making a big comeback! The all-new “City Hunter The Movie” (“Gekijouban City Hunter”) will be released in Japanese theatres on 8th February 2019. This is the first new work from the evergreen series in over twenty years!
“City Hunter” is a Japanese manga series by Tsukasa Hojo which ran from 1985 to 1991 on Shueisha’s Jump Comics. The series follows the exploits of Ryo Saeba, a private detective living and working in Tokyo, with a penchant for fast cars and even faster women. When his partner is murdered, he reluctantly takes on his deceased partner’s sister in a bid to find the killer and solve crimes in the seedy underbelly of Tokyo.
“City Hunter” was adapted into four animated television series, three television specials, two original video animations, an animated feature film, a live-action Hong Kong film starring Jackie Chan, a Korean live action TV drama, a new Japanese live action TV drama, and a French live action movie — which, coincidentally will also be released on February 2019.
