  • Town’s rice paddy art features Astro Boy and other classic Osamu Tezuka characters

    Rice Paddy Art, or “Tambo Art” as they call it in Japan, is a thing within small rural farming towns. They feature awesome artwork within rice paddies, and often feature anime or manga characters. Recently, the town of Inakadate in Aomori Prefecture has been featuring Tambo Art in their rice paddies. And in that art, they’re celebrating the late great father of modern manga himself, Osamu Tezuka.

    The town’s Field #2 is the one which features the Tezuka tribute artwork. It features several lovable Tezuka characters, such as Astro Boy, Black Jack, Kimba, and many more. They also placed stone artworks of Princess Diana and Japanese singer Hibari Misora next to the Tezuka Tambo Art.

    Meanwhile, Field#1 features the classic Hollywood film, Roman Holiday. The classic film stars Audrey Hepburn and Gregory peck, and is popular among the older Japanese.

    Inakadate has gained a reputation for their wonderful Tambo Art. They even built a special train station called Tambo Art Station to help travelers coming to see the fields. The town even has a free shuttle which runs between the station and the fields, which is definitely a plus for tourists.
