  • Sumire Uesaka and Natsuki Hanae Part of Gum Brand’s 20th Anniversary Project

    Lotte celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its Xylitol brand of chewing gum by commissioning twenty individuals — from students to athletes to pop culture icons, to design twenty unique designs for their new packaging. There are a few familiar names on the list for anime fans, such as voice actors Sumire Uesaka and Natsuki Hanae, illustrators Eku Uekura and Tatsuki Fujimoto, as well as Mens Skating champion Yuzuru Hanyuu!

    Sumire Uesaka is best known for her roles as Anastasia in THE [email protected] Cinderella Girls, and Fubuki from Kantai Collection. She describes her design as, “two girls looking into a mysterious hole, and then accidentally push a Start button that kickstarts the future”! Her design truly reflects her unique and quirky world view.

    Natsuki Hanae is best known for his roles as Koeusei Arima in Your Lie in April, Ken Kaneki in Tokyo Ghoul, and Inaho Kaizuka in Aldnoah Zero. He describes his design as, “flowery characters based on my name “Hanae”, wearing my favorite artifact — the gas mask, and fighting evil and injustice in this world”!

    Tatsuki Fujimoto is a manga artist best known for his work on Fire Punch and Love is Blind. His design incorporates Agni from his comic “Fire Punch”, since he wanted to the never-ending passion of the lead character.

    Eku Uekura is an artist who has created illustrations for titles such as “Yuri!!! On Ice” and “Little Witch Academia”. Uekura describes his illustration as being inspired by the future and virtual reality.

    Yuzuru is a champion men’s figure skater, who won gold at the recent Sochi Olympics as well as the 2017 World Figure Skating Men’s Crown. He describes his design as having been inspired by the kanji character “Hane” — which means “wings”, incorporated in his name. It also incorporates the color gold, inspired by his gold medals in skating.
