  • Enjoy Aniplex, Enjoy AnimeJapan 2017!

One of the annual highlights of AnimeJapan is the yearly exhibition by Aniplex — one of the world’s biggest anime and anisong producers. This year the Aniplex team pulled out all the stops to bring fans a massive exhibition space filled to the brim with a sampling of their biggest currently-running titles, their most highly-anticipated new releases, and everything else in between!

The theme for this year’s exhibition is Enjoy Aniplex — and fans certainly did as they explored the sprawling exhibition space that’s the size of several AnimeJapan booths combined! The booth had several different sections, at least two large-format LED screens looping the company’s biggest titles, and it’s own event mini-space just for Aniplex-related features. Many Aniplex titles such as Kuzu no Honkan, Sword Art Online, Saenai Kanojo no Sodatekata, and many more were feted out in individual panels, featuring production stills, staff comments, lineworks and sketches, and so much more!

Toys and collectibles from many of Aniplex’s hit titles take center stage in one section of the exhibition space. Both rare, previously-released items and one-of-a-kind prototypes of upcoming releases were on display to be ooh-ed and ahh-ed at by adoring fans, including the Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie – The Rebellion Story- Ultimate Madoka figure to be released in time with the upcoming movie, and miniature figures of Black Butler’s Sebastian Michaelis meant to do antics on the rim of your teacup.

Aniplex is likewise pushing its massive anisong catalog to fans, by leveraging both its massive library of of titles, as well as its synergy with the consumer electronics division of its mother company Sony. On display and available soon are products such as the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale collaborative headphones: Sony Hi-Res headphones “h.ear on™ Wireless NC MDR-100ABN (CINNABAR RED)” [Asuna Version] and “MDR-1000X (BEIGE)” [Kirito Version]. They’re a little pricey at about JPY 35,000 ++ and JPY 45,000 ++ respectively, but the sound quality and the animation tie-up more than make up for the costs.

Overall, Aniplex is one of the most expansive and intensive booths at this year’s AnimeJapan. They is literally so much to see and do, you’ll find yourself drifting back to their booth even after you’re left to explore the rest of the exhibition halls. It’s popularity may also seem to be its downfall, as some queues for the interactive exhibits can stretch to half an hour or more, but Japanese anime fans are a patient lot so they simply waited for their turns in an orderly fashion. Personally, we can’t wait to see hoe Aniplex top themselves next year — til then, we have an entire year to wait in eager anticipation!
