  • Makoto Shinkai’s your name. wins L.A. Film Critics Association’s Best Animated Film award

    After dominating Japan and Asia, your name. is set to conquer North America. The Makoto Shinkai film has added one new non-Japanese award to its already-growing collection of awards, as the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) has awarded your name. with its Best Animated Film award.

    The film beat out Michael Dudok de Wit and Studio Ghibli’s The Red Turtle, which won the runner-up prize. Previous Japanese winner of the award were both Studio Ghibli films, and they are Isao Takahata’s The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, the latter going on to win Best Animated Film in the Academy Awards.

    The film has now surpassed Howl’s Moving Castle and its 19.6 billion yen ticket sales and is looking to possibly approach the 20 billion yen mark.
