Sailor uniforms are commonly seen in anime, and they are also worn by Japanese school girls … or by Ladybeard and the legendary Sailor Suit Old Man himself, Hideaki Kobayashi.
It seems that a lot of guys want to follow in their footsteps too! When BIBI LAB released new lounge-wear for men, it became surprisingly successful as these sailor uniforms for men just got sold out in a matter of two days!
Known as Bokusera, which is a play on the Japanese masculine version of “I” and “Sailor”, the demand for these items have made BIBI LAB consider a second release for both the white and black versions. The distributors themselves were surprised with the success of these items, which were sold at 8,856 yen per outfit.
This comes with the rise of the “otokonoko” subculture in Japan where crossdressing among men has been on the rise as many women are seen as accepting of them, or even encouraging them. Several maid cafes even feature crossdressers serving customers.
