  • [MANGA] One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has one crazy work schedule

Being a professional mangaka sure is tough with all the deadlines, and that is especially true with the mangaka of more popular series like Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail, Tokyo Ghoul. Of course, One Piece’s mangaka Eiichiro Oda, is well-known for being a workaholic who takes very little breaks in his now 18-year run.

Now 40 years of age, Oda started One piece at just the age of 22, and he hasn’t slowed down ever since. But he achieved success through an insane work ethic, which includes a pretty insane daily work schedule where his only breaks are for eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom. Here’s what a typical day in the life of Eiichiro Oda looks like as revealed in a recent magazine article:

    ● Wake up at 5 a.m., start working
    ● Continue working through the day
    ● Go to bed at 2 a.m.

And I thought my day was pretty hectic! However, he doesn’t exactly do the same thing every day, but he has a schedule of sorts for that as well:

    ● Monday-Wednesday: Layout planning and character dialogue
    ● Thursday-Saturday: Drawing and inking
    ● Sunday: Coloring and other tasks

But when he does get that rare day off, often when Shounen Jump! gets a combined 2-week issue, Oda has admitted that he often meets with other people in the manga industry:

“I meet up with my old assistants, or with other manga artists or friends who have helped me out, and we catch up with each other and talk about what we’ve been up to.”

So a daily life of manga 24/7 huh? Even with a break, his life is involved with manga, so by the time One Piece finally ends, fans should be a bit respectful and not ask for a new series. As his rival Masashi kishimoto, creator of Naruto, has said, “Please let me rest.”
