  • [MOVIES] 'Forbidden Sequel' for live-action Death Note movies announced for 2016

    The live-action Death Note TV drama series has finally ended its run. However, as it ended, an important announcement video was shown, and it announces that the live-action Death Note movies from 2006 are making a comeback after 10 years.

    According to the video, a “Forbidden Sequel” to the highly successful 2006 Death Note live-action movies, Death Note and Death Note: The Last Name, is slated for 2016. The project is being helmed by Shinsuke Sato, the same director who worked on the live-action adaptation of Gantz and Library Wars.

    The movie, tentatively titled Death Note 2016, will follow Death Note: The Last Name and will introduce Light Yagami’s successor, the second Kira, as well as L’s successor, who will do battle against each other using the six Death Notes still in the human world. These two successors have inherited the DNA of their respective predecessors.

    The “Six-Note Rule”, which states that only six Death Notes can be allowed to exist in the human world, will be in play, and it will become the movie’s plot point. More announcements about these movies, such as the exact premiere date, staff, and trailers, will be revealed in the future.
