  • [ANIME] Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto says he won't do a Naruto sequel anymore

Being a mangaka can be hard as famous ones like One Piece’s Eiichiro Oda being reported to sleep only 2 – 3 hours a day. And it has also been tough on Masashi Kishimoto, who even though his series, Naruto, concluded with its 700th and final chapter last year, is still a bit swamped from work.

Then world-renowned mangaka recently attended a preview screening event for Boruto: Naruto the Movie, which was also attended by the movie’s cast. Kishimoto thanked the fans for all their support and asked them to support the movie, but he also talked about his life as a mangaka.

Kishimoto revealed that in over a decade of being married, he’s never gotten on a honeymoon with his wife until the series concluded and heir son is now “as old as Boruto”, which means that he was that swamped with work. During a discussion with the cast, Boruto’s seiyuu, Yuko Sanpei, asked if he was planning on a sequel because she would love it if the series continued, To that, he respectfully said no and added “Please let me rest now”. And needless to say, he deserves that rest.

As he is the writer of the movie, Kishimoto also said that, to him, “Boruto: Naruto the Movie” is already perfect and added that he is already “satisfied” with it. Could it be that he’s talking about Boruto being the last story in the franchise? For now, we would never know.

The event also presented a moving tribute to fans by showing a video which compiles a few messages from them, and when the video was shown, fans git a bit emotional.

The video features the song, Diver, by J-Rock band, Kana-BOOM, which also serves as the movie’s theme song. And speaking of Kana-BOOM, the band also performed and rocked the house during the event.

And the video really does make it look like it would be difficult for Boruto to match his father’s legacy, but then again, could he manage to find a way to get out of his shadow? I guess we will find out in his coming of age story, which premieres in Japan this 7 August 2015.
