  • [ANIME] Doraemon The Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan remake announced

In 1989, a Doraemon movie called Doraemon The Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan was released. More than 25 years later, Fujiko Pro has announced that the movie will have a new remake scheduled for 2016.

The announcement however has no information on whether the new film will be a traditional 2D anime movie, just like the 1989 original, or a 3DCG movie, in the style of their latest addition, the critically-acclaimed Stand By Me Doraemon. The promotional image does feature the lovable robotic cat in its updated 3D design.

Doraemon The Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan will follow Nobita, Shizuka, Gian, Suneo, and Doraemon after Nobita decides to run away from home after getting scolded by his parents. Doraemon then takes them 70,000 years into the past before the nation of Japan was even founded.

The original boasted the largest number of tickets sold for any Doraemon movie as it has sold over 4.2 million tickets. It was also announced that the movie is scheduled to premiere some time in March 2016.
