In 1995, one anime changed the landscape of the animation industry forever, and that anime is Neon Genesis Evangelion. And to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary, a special Evangelion-themed smartphone will be released later this year, and it is announced to be sim card-free. In other words, this Eva smartphone does not need a sim card.
Scheduled for release by the end of 2015, the Evangelion Smartphone Project is headed by the Evangelion Smartphone Development Committee. The Committee is also looking to recruit 30,000 supporters for the project to fill out survey forms, which will help the committee decide on the Eva Smartphone’s design, apps, and functions. Each form filled out by these supporters will be inspected thoroughly so their input will really be helping the project out.
In return for their help, the supporters will be getting a special supporter card complete with a serial number (pictured above). They will also be receiving updates on the development of the Eva Smartphone itself so they can know if their suggestions were incorporated into the new phone.
