  • [ENTERTAINMENT] World-famous Takarazuka Revue to do an all-female live-action Rurouni Kenshin play

    Japan’s legendary all-female stage troupe, the Takarazuka Revue has captured the imagination of the world, and now, the legendary troupe will be performing their own adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s popular manga series Rurouni Kenshin.

    This all-female Rurouni Kenshin stage play by the Takarazuka Revue has been slated to be performed at the Grand Theater from 5 February until 14 March 2016, before heading to the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater from 1 April until 8 May 2016.

    The play will star Seina Sagiri and Miyu Sakihi, both of whom are fresh off the Takarazuka Revue adaptation of Lupin III last February where Sagiri played the titular thief, Lupin III, while Sakihi played Marie Antoinette. The Lupin III stage play’s writer, Shuichiro Koike, is even writing the scripts.

    The Rurouni Kenshin anime itself has roots in the Takarazuka Revue, as Kenshin “Battousai” Himura’s seiyuu herself, Mayo Suzukaze is a veteran member of the troupe where she acted as the lead role of Oscar in the live-action adaptation of the Rose of Versailles.
