  • [GAMES] XBox Scorpio looks Impressive

Back when Project Scorpio was announced, Mircosoft promised that the project would deliver “the most powerful  console ever”, and from the looks of thing, Microsoft has delivered on that promise. In terms of raw power, Scorpio looks to be head and shoulders above the rest of the consoles currently available.

In a PR event with Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry, Microsoft unveiled the specs behind their new console. Revealing that it will include a custom CPU, 12GB of GDDR5 RAM, and a memory bandwidth that dwarfs even the PS4 Pro.

With specs able to run a Forza tech demo at 60 fps and 4K, Scorpio looks to be a beast. Unlike the PS4 Pro which was a new take on the PS4, Scorpio is likely to be a completely new generation, although Microsoft has promised that it will play games from the previous generations, namely XBox 360 and XBox One.

While the specs promise improvements like better graphics, better framerates, and faster load times, whether it will do well in the next generation will depend on it’s ability to actually play games.

The current generation has been dominated by Sony and the PlayStation 4, as not only have Sony shipped more consoles than Microsoft, it has also shipped more games. Where Sony’s first-party developers have shipped plenty of games, like Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Persona 5, Microsoft has disappointed its fans with cancellations to high profile, and hotly anticipated games like Scalebound, and Fable Legends.

If Microsoft want to make a dent in Sony’s dominance it needs to start strong this fall, when the console releases. To do so they need to make sure that the console’s lineup is at least on par, or better than the Playstation 4’s, if not Microsoft would be left with nothing but yet another glorified set-top box.
