The voting for Tokyo Anime Award Festival’s fan award is now over, and the results is out!
The elections featured over 550 titles, but only the Top 100 of the year were revealed. A total of 480,004 people voted, and the results were divided between anime film and TV anime. “Detective Conan The Darkest Nightmare” won the film category with 41,601 votes, while “Yuri on Ice!” stood on top of the TV anime category with 64,774 votes.
To be able to enter, anime have to be shown from 18 October 2015 – 15 October 2016. Fans can vote for over 500 works, from “Your Name” to “Mr. Osomatsu“, to the current leader, “Yuri on Ice!“, as TV Anime and animated films are all included.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is co-hosting the awards, along with The Association of Japanese Animations.
The prestigious Anime of the Year Award, which has been given to some of the best anime of the year, is also handed out during the event. Attack on Titan, The Wind Rises, Summer Wars, Spirited Away, Gundam SEED, and of course, FROZEN, which has surprised many non-Japanese anime fans, have all won the Anime of the Year award. The award is divided into two different categories with nominees winning either the TV anime or the animated film prize.
The other prizes include Best Director, Best Original Story, Best Screenplay, and more, including the various Competition Winning Programs which are open to international films.
