    Makoto Shinkai’s your name. is raking in numbers that rival the great Hayao Miyazaki back in Japan, and is currently the country’s highest-grossing film for this year, already surpassing Miyzaki’s Ponyo in terms of over-all sales. But while your name’s local Japanese success has been well-documented, people have now started realizing its impact internationally.

    In South Korea, the film screened at the 18th Bucheon International Animation Film Festival, where it won both the Special Distinction Prize and the Audience Prize for the feature film category. This is the first film of its category to win both awards. The film was competing against 25 April (New Zealand), The Girl Without Hands (France), My Dogs, JinJin & Akida (Korea), My Life as a Courgette (Switzerland/France), Psiconautas, the Forgotten Children(Spain), and Window Horses (Canada).

    It also did very well in Taiwan where it earned NT$64 million to top the country’s local box office. A pre-screening was also held in the country, with 99% of the seats being filled. The pre-screening earned NT$1.35 million.
