• Mangaka Osamu Akimoto is already planning 4 new series, even after finishing KochiKame after 40 years

Even after a long 40-year run (and clinching a Guinness World Record) with legendary comedy manga, “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo,”, or Kochikame for short, mangaka Osamu Akimoto has announced he is not quite done with drawing manga yet.

According to issue #42 of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Akimoto already has plans for several new manga series. Akimoto will be publishing four new manga across four different Shueisha publications in 2017, though they have been referenced as “short stories,” which would definitely be the opposite of his manga’s 40-year run.

The upcoming manga are titled Kyoto Jogakuin Monogatari -Finder- (Kyoto Girls Academy Story -Finder-), Mr. Clice, Black Tiger, and Ii Yu Da Ne!, although the titles and story are subject to change before publication. According to ANN:

Kyoto Jogakuin Monogatari -Finder- will run in Weekly Young Jump, and will center on the lives of students at a girls academy on the outskirts of Kyoto.
Mr. Clice will run in Jump Square, and will be a revival of Akimoto’s similarly titled manga, which ended in 2007 in Monthly Shonen Jump. Like the previous manga, the action comedy will center on Jim Clice, a Japanese secret agent with the body of a woman but the mind of a man.
Black Tiger will run in Grand Jump, and will be set in a wasteland where survival is a struggle. The “violence gun action” story will center on a beautiful gunslinger who travels the frontier.
Ii Yu Da Ne! will run in Ultra Jump, and will be a sequel to Kochikame. It is set in a bath house adjacent to a police station located in Tokyo’s Shitamachi area, and will feature a beautiful foreign woman.
The series is considered as Weekly Shonen Jump! magazine’s longest-running series, and it has outlasted some of the magazine’s most popular titles in its 40-year serialization run, including Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach, Nisekoi, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Kuroko’s Basketball. It has inspired several anime adaptations, a live-action movie, drama, and a stage play. The 200th and final volume was released last 17th January.
