• Love Live! Sunshine!!’s locations in real life are finally found!

Most anime today base their settings on real-life locations, and much like its predecessor, Love Live! Sunshine!! is certainly no exception. Like the original Love Live! anime, the anime featured Akihabara, the holy land of idols and anime.

The original Love Live! anime was set in Akihabara, and this is where Chika got her inspiration for forming AQUORS. In fact, a lot of the Akihabara scenes were featured in the first episode, and here are some of them:

Meanwhile, there were plenty of real-life scenery at Shizuoka Prefecture found throughout the area, and it really looks like Sunshine payed a lot of attention to detail when it comes to the setting. This includes Uranohoshi Girls’ High School, which in reality is called Nagaisaki Junior High School.

Here are the other places in Uchiura that were featured in the anime’s early episodes, including the inn that Chika’s family runs, the local buses, Awashima Marine Park where Kanan works, Awashima Hotel which is owned by Mari’s family, and the Izu Mito Sea Paradise.

And as expected, the anime has now completely taken over this small beach town, much like what Girls und Panzer did for Oarai. From buses to boats, Love Live! Sunshine!! is everywhere.

According to Crunchyroll’s Wilhelm Donko, who visited the town:

You might have noticed by now, that there is a lot of promotion going on for the show in the city and even a lot of buses feature the school idols. I want to mention the driver of this bus in particular. I asked him if it was okay if I took a couple of pictures of the bus, so he even stepped out of the bus and gave me a few minutes to take all the pictures I wanted (the bus was empty, by the way). In general, all the locals I encountered in Uchiura were extremely helpful and friendly to me, and also seemed quite happy that a foreigner made it to their little town. If I wasn’t an all too big fan of the series before, I am definitely one now; and I won’t forget my trip to Uchiura anytime soon.
