• Godzilla is getting an anime, and Gen Urobuchi is writing it!

Renowned anime scriptwriter, Gen Urobuchi, also known to fans as “the Butcher,” has been teasing a new project on twitter. The writer known for making characters suffer in his stories and killing lovable ones off is currently writing the script for the Taiwanese/Japanese co-produced puppet show, Thunderbolt Fantasy, but now he seems to be taking on a work of monstrous proportions… and to be exact, the King of Monsters himself, Godzilla!

The renowned anime scribe will be working with Polygon Pictures (Knights if Sidonia) and Toho to bring this massive 3DCG Godzilla anime project to life. The anime will be directed by Kobun Shizuno, who directed Knights of Sidonia, and Hiroyuki Seshita, the head director of Ajin: Demi-human. The anime will be a theatrical release which is scheduled for 2017.

Looks like a lot of big names have already handled the Big G, including Evangelion director, Hideaki Anno, who also directed Godzilla: Resurgence. Gen Urobuchi, who is best known for highly-psychological works like Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, and Psycho-Pass, will be the latest big name to work on Godzilla
