  • [MOVIE] Blade of the Immortal live-action movie stars Takuya Kimura

Hiroaki Samura’s worldwide bestselling manga, Blade of the Immortal (Mugen no Junin), is getting adapted into a live-action movie! It will be directed by the ever-controversial Takashi Miike, who is known for his dark and usually gritty movies and would certainly fit the style of the manga.

Playing the lead role in the movie is the Japanese heartthrob and much sought-after leading man, Takuya Kimura, also known as KimuTaku, who is not only regarded as one of Japan’s sexiest actors, but is also a member of the Japanese boy band SMAP. He is definitely no stranger to period films as he previously starred in Love and Honor back in 2006. He was personally selected by director Miike for the role.

The movie will be adapted from Hiroaki Samura’s worldwide bestselling manga, which is set during the Tokugawa Shogunate. It follows Manji, a cursed Rounin (samurai without a master), who will not die unless he kills 1,000 evil men.

Blade of the Immortal is known for its copious amounts of gore, and no other Japanese director may be able to bring out that much but Takashi Miike, whose films like Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer are known to be bloody. While there was an anime adaptation back in 2008, this would be the first time that the manga will be getting a live-action treatment.
