  • [MOVIE] First live-action Attack on Titan movie debuts at #1 in Japan's weekend box office

    The first live-action Attack on Titan movie has finally made its premiere in Japan, and it seems that all of its hype has been justified by this weekend’s box office numbers. On its opening weekend, the movie debut at #1, beating out the #2 ranked Minions (Sorry LiSA ^w^).

    Despite fans generally not being happy that Levi is not in the movie, or the critics having mixed reviews, Attack on Titan took the top spot by earning approximately 603,466,200 yen in the box office, and that’s just the opening weekend. It triumphed over Minions, which has earned approximately 545,989,900 yen in its opening weekend.

    A new TV ad for the movie has also been aired in Japan, and it takes a look at the movie’s red carpet Hollywood screening, which was attended by the movies’ two leads, Haruma Miura and Kiko Mizuhara, who played Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman respectively. Also attending the red carpet premiere is director Shinji Higuchi, as well as a miniature Colossal Titan.

    The first movie will also be shown in Singapore in the same month this coming 13 August. Encore Films will be distributing the movie, which will be available in Japanese audio with both English and Chinese subtitles. It will be shown at various Golden Village cinemas across Singapore. The second movie, Attack on Titan: End of the World, will premiere in Japan on 19 September.
