• [GAMES] 2 new additions to the Monster Hunter franchise announced

Yesterday, Capcom announced two new entrants into the much celebrated Monster Hunter franchise during a Nintendo Direct presentation, Monster Hunter X, and MonHun Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village DX.

Monster Hunter is a series of games, which pits players against large dragons and monsters, while wielding weapons like swords, bows and glaives. The series had been a huge hit in Japan but has only garnered a cult following outside of the country. This had been attributed to the game’s combat system, which requires players to mash buttons to produce combos while facing charging creatures head on.

Mastering the game usually requires plenty of patience and practice, especially if you are new to the series and it is a tradition looks set to carry on with the announcement of Monster Hunter X (pronounced Monster Hunter Cross), which will introduce flashy attacks, and a new customizable hunting style for each weapon.  A new class-based attack system will also be introduced where special attacks can be activated as an accent. There will be four classes to choose from, each of which will determine the type of special attack the player can use. The new moves look very cool and will add another tool to the arsenal of every hunter, no matter your choice of weapon.

Set at the foot of a massive mountain chain, Beruna will act as the base village for the game, with at least three villages from previous editions making appearances in the game. They are Kokoto Village (1st Generation), Pokke Village (2nd Generation), and Yukumo Village (3rd Generation). While new monsters, big and small will be introduced, some monsters from previous editions will also return, with four new flagship monsters making their debut. Perhaps Monster Hunter Cross will be more than just a name. Monster Hunter Cross will be released in Japan, Winter 2015. However, there is no word on when or even if Monster Hunter Cross will hit western shores yet, but you can be sure that we’ll bring the word to you when the western release is announced. Next is MonHun Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village DX, this game is a spin off from the main series, and will see players take up the role of a Felyne going through the daily lives of a resident of a Felyne Village. This is not a first for the series however, as there was a similar game released for the Playstation Portable called MonHun Diary: Poka Poka Felyne Village. The game is essentially Monster Hunter’s take on the widely popular Animal Crossing series. In the previous edition, the Felyne party was not controlled directly, instead directed the party through various encounters and based on the given orders various events would occur, success in these quests would be based on choosing the correct commands. Much like the Meownster Hunter quests in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Players will be able to race on Poogie and raise baby monster eggs.  The game is set for release in Japan on the 10th of September, and like Monster Hunter Cross there is no news on a western release yet.
