The bi-annual anime event known as Machi Asobi would always include a charity auction where ufotable and Type-Moon auction off several limited edition items from tapestries to artworks. For this event, the item with the highest bid is a huge surprise as it ain’t one of the usual suspects of Saber, Rin, Sakura, or even Archer or Gilgamesh, instead, it is a tapestry of Rin’s father, Tokiomi Tohsaka.
The bidding war for the Tokiomi tapestry got really heated, and it became so intense that the final two bidders had to resort to a game of rock-paper-scissors to decide who would go home with the item. The final bid for the tapestry was at 750,000 yen which is of course, a lot of money. A Rin Tohsaka tapestry was sold for 180,000 yen, however, it is clearly not as expensive as her dear old dad’s.
Meanwhile, the Kiritsugu with young Shirou tapestry was auctioned off for 50,000 yen. It may not be as expensive as the Tokiomi tapestry, but that’s still quite a lot. Other items included a ufotable Sakura Matou tapestry getting sold for 42,000 yen and a signed Kirei Kotomine tapestry worth 200,000 yen.
However, tapestries weren’t the only ones up for grabs during the auction as a Garden of Sinners illustration by anime director Ei Awoki, was sold for 200,000 yen. An autographed figure of Illyasviel Von Einzbern in her magical girl form was also auctioned off, and it fetched 95,000 yen. An autographed Halloween artwork from ufotable founder, Hikaru Kondou managed to fetch 160,000 yen, while scripts from Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV)’s episodes 7 – 13 was sold for 200,000 yen. Scripts from episodes 14 – 17 were able to fetch 300,000 yen, while this Newtype Magazine anniversary illustration autographed by Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi, the co-founders of Type-Moon, was sold for a whopping 530,000 yen.
Clearly, the winners of this auction are the various charities which will be receiving all that money. Well, if you are gonna shell out some money to get limited edition items, why no do it for charity, right? Not only are you receiving a valuable item, but you are also helping other people out, and that is always a good thing.
