• [ANIME] Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin I breaks Japanese box office records

Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin I: Blue-eyed Casval premiered last 28 February, and needless to say, it was a huge success. And with the numbers from what the first part of the Origin series has earned now released, it seems that the film has indeed broken a few records in Japan’s local box office.

Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin I: Blue-eyed Casval opened to the highest per theater average in Japan as it earned ¥ 73,726,200 (appx. US$616,420 USD or SG$840,000) on 56,397 theater admissions on just two days. The Gundam movie also had the highest per theater average for last weekend as it earned  ¥5,671,246 (appx. US$47,500 USD or SG$65,000).

Blue-eyed Casval will be screened in Japan until 13 March and it was also screened in several theaters across South East Asia last 28 February, which is the same day as its Japanese premiere. Its sequel, Sorrowful Artesia, has been slated for Fall 2015.

Gundam the Origin I follows the young Char Aznable (then known as Casval Deikun) and a young Sayla Mass (then known as Artesia Deikun) as they tried to deal with the assassination of their father and the conspiracy which led to his death. Gundam the Origin II will pick up 3 years after the siblings’ escaped and will show how Artesia and Casval get separated then becoming Sayla Mass and Char Aznable respectively.
